Meng Wei, spokesperson for the National Development and Reform Commission, stated that the new energy vehicle industry is currently facing unprecedented development opportunities and will take multiple measures to expand consumption of new energy vehicles.

A media question suggests that since the beginning of this year, the growth rate of new energy vehicle production and sales has slowed down compared to last year. How do you view this phenomenon? Can the new energy vehicle industry continue its rapid growth trend?

In response, Meng Wei stated that in recent years, under the combined influence of various factors, China's new energy vehicle industry has developed rapidly. From 2012 to 2022, the annual composite growth rate of new energy vehicle sales reached 87.2%, ranking first in the world in terms of production and sales for 8 consecutive years. According to the statistics of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the production and sales volume in the first four months of this year reached 2.291 million and 2.222 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 42.8%.

From the monthly trend, the growth rate of new energy vehicle production and sales in China shows a trend of low opening and high going, constantly accelerating; In the first two months, the production and sales of new energy vehicles increased by 16.3% and 20.8% respectively. In March, the production and sales increased by 44.8% and 34.8% respectively. In April, both production and sales increased by 1.1 times, indicating that the overall trend of rapid growth continues.

Meng Wei pointed out that looking back at the development process of China's new energy vehicle industry, especially in recent years, the endogenous driving force for the development of the new energy vehicle industry has been continuously increasing.

From the demand side, profound changes are taking place in transportation modes, energy consumption structure, and other aspects. The production and lifestyle of over 1.4 billion people is transitioning towards green and low-carbon, which has given rise to a huge demand for new energy vehicles and provided huge potential market space for industrial development.

From the supply side perspective, after years of continuous efforts, the technological level of China's new energy vehicle industry has significantly improved, the industrial system is becoming increasingly perfect, and the competitiveness of enterprises is greatly enhanced. New products and services that conform to the trend of consumption upgrading are constantly launched, and the adaptability of the supply system to demand is constantly improving. New energy vehicles are increasingly recognized by consumers.

Meng Wei stated that currently, the new energy vehicle industry is facing unprecedented development opportunities. Next, the National Development and Reform Commission will continue to improve policy measures, guide relevant parties to seize opportunities, improve technological innovation capabilities, build a new industrial ecosystem, promote industrial integration and development, improve infrastructure systems, deepen open exchanges and cooperation, and continuously enhance the core competitiveness of the industry.
